DISCIPLESHIP PATHWAY

What is a Discipleship Pathway?

To be clear, the discipleship pathway is not a program. The discipleship pathway was created in an attempt to provide a clear path towards making disciples.

Based on Acts 2, we see what the early church valued in disciples. At Crucible, this looks like the following, and the steps we see that every disciple of Jesus Christ is called and invited to take:

Definition of a disciple:

A disciple is one who follows Jesus, loves like Jesus, and learns from Jesus to grow holistically in our character, emotions, mind and life.

1. GATHER

The disciples in Acts 2:42, 46 dedicated themselves to fellowshipping, and to the gathering together of God’s people for worship. As disciples today who follow Jesus, we aim to do the same. This step can be taken by gathering for worship services held every Sunday morning.

2. GROW

The disciples in Acts 2:42 dedicated themselves to the apostle’s teaching. Simply said, the disciples devoted themselves to hearing, and submitting themselves to God’s word being taught in their efforts to grow in their relationship with God.

As disciples at Crucible, we aim to
grow in our relationship with God and with other believers in the community. This step can be seen in taking courses in the discipleship pathway, as well as committing to a small group at the church.

3. SERVE

The disciples in Acts 2:45 sold their possessions and gave to those in need. In other words, they served one another wherever there was a need. As a church community, we seek to also serve one another with our possessions, our finances, our time and our spiritual giftedness.

This step can be taken by serving in any of our ministries at the church, as well as using our spiritual God-giftedness in and for the community in Richmond and the Greater Vancouver Regional District.

4. SHARE

The disciples in Acts 2:7-11, 36-38 were filled by the Holy Spirit, and started to share about the Good News of what God was doing among them. Peter preached the Gospel, and extended an invitation to all those who heard him to repent and receive the gift of baptism.

As disciples, we too are invited to share the Good News and the good work that God is doing among us in our lives and in our community!

We are encouraged to invite the people that God has placed in our paths to do life together in community. This step can be seen in inviting friends, co-workers, and our neighbours to church, and to do life together in small groups!
